It seems true that rules protect us—“Look both ways before crossing the street.” If we follow them, we have a shot at growing old. We tend to think the spiritual life works the same way—if we want to grow we’ll follow the rules. However, God has a different take on this perspective. Our text this morning shows us the tragic result of relying on rules for spiritual growth and challenges us adopt a perspective build on the foundation of grace. Galatians 4:8–20
